Graphic Design
Print and Digital
I am an experienced graphic designer with both web and print forms. Some of my digital experience includes website design and creation, social media tiles/campaigns, animations, gifs, and digital illustration. I also regularly design for print with experience creating everything from billboards, posters, postcard advertisements and campaigns, booklets, reports, stickers, enamel pins, tote bags, t-shirts and almost all other things you can imagine printed. I know how printers work and know what it takes to create a striking campaign or to re-energise your business.
I’ve shared some of my favourite projects below so you can see some of the things I do.
The Aussie Backyard Bird Count
For the last four years I have created all the campaign materials, digital and print, for BirdLife Australia’s Aussie Backyard Bird Count. This is Australia’s largest citizen scientist project and BirdLife Australia’s biggest event. Last year, 2019, over 88,000 people participated in this event. The materials I created include a suite of illustrations which I used on the elements I designed which included: posters, information booklets, infographics, animated social media gifs and videos, website, social media banners and tiles, educational curriculum workbooks, app design, bookmarks and stickers. I loved the chance to create such colourful and friendly graphics and seeing them around Australia, on television, in the media and on everyone’s social media feed is incredibly satisfying. This is an event that is now easily recognisable by the consistency in style of the illustrations and is well known throughout Australia.
Birdlife Australia Photography Awards
I was lucky enough to design and build the website for Australia’s premier bird photography prize. This involved collaborating with multiple partners and coming up with a contemporary and striking design.
Australia Remade
Australia Remade is another inspiring project that I’ve had the opportunity to be involved with. For Australia Remade I designed their entire branding, including their website, web icons, print templates and brochure illustrating their vision. This was a particularly interesting project. It needed to offer a representation of Australia that was inclusive and visually represented their values - often fairly abstract in nature. I loved the challenge this posed and the project has gone on to be highly successful.
I love to give clients a good description of why I made decisions and the ideas behind concepts that I come up. Usually I send through a PDF with a couple of different potential design concepts and the reasons and stories behind them and then we pick one and work on refining it together from there. You can see my initial ideas for this project and the story and my thinking behind them and understand some of the way I work by viewing the PDF below.
act for birds - campaign collateral
This is another project that means a lot to me - BirdLife Australia’s major advocacy campaign. For this campaign, which is now running for it’s third year, I worked with the BirdLife Australia conservation team to create branding, a website, t-shirts, infographics, billboards, postcards, reports, posters and social media imagery, to be the face of their campaign.
BirdLife Australia estore
This was a wonderful challenge - creating the design for BirdLife Australia’s e-store, The Nest. For this project I created the design only. The technical production was done by Owen Davey.
Woollykins
I loved designing Woollykins’s logo, making them illustrations for their postcard campaign and also the design and instructional illustrations for their recent Darning Kit.
Birds in Backyards - promotional material
Birds in Backyards is Australia’s leading urban bird program. I regularly create for them imagery to use in their social media, at conferences, and currently are helping them redesign their website.
